Chiropractic vs Massage or Physical Therapy

What separates us from other providers?

Chiropractic offers a comprehensive approach, utilizing lifestyle improvements, (exercise, nutrition, and stress relief), to treat the whole person without medicine or surgery.

While there is overlap between the three therapies.  Chiropractic offers the most choices for most common muscle and joint injuries as well as helping manage other health problems.

Massage addresses soft tissue problems (muscle and tendons) and has the most limited scope (explained in another section).  Physical Therapy is more comparable to Chiropractic but each excels in different areas.  Physical therapy has a broader scope in dealing with restoring function after a surgical procedure or a Neurological/cardiovascular problem (heart attack or stroke).

Physical therapy also addresses joints and muscles but mostly through stretching and exercise.   Both chiropractic and physical therapy will use electrical therapy or ultrasound therapy, modalities to help manage pain and inflammation.

Chiropractors differ in being the best professionally trained physicians in locating subluxations (misaligned or improperly moving joints that compromise nerve function) and specifically correct them by hand with an "adjustment".  Chiropractic optimizes the structural foundation and allows muscles and nerves to function better.    Massage or exercise alone can not achieve the same level of benefit.

Most Chiropractors utilize soft tissue therapy and rehabilitation exercise to reinforce the skeletal / joint correction.  Ideally your provider of choice addresses all 3 aspects of your condition.   Chances are a properly trained Chiropractor will be better able to address all 3 aspects of care better than an common massage therapist or physical therapist.
